Bush cancels 2004 Presidential election

President Bush today announced that, due to "reasons of national security", the 2004 presidential elections would be postponed indefinitely.

"Our country is at war with an enemy that never sleeps," Bush said. "For the safety of all Americans, this administration cannot afford to let the demands of an election campaign distract us from making every effort to find and punish the evil-doers."

"At this critical juncture of our nation's history, I therefore reach out to members of both Houses of Congress to put partisan issues aside and join us as we strive-- diplomatically if we can, by force if we have to-- to bring the blessings of liberty to all the peoples of the world."

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist applauded the President's resolute leadership, and vowed that Congress would not jeopardize the success of the current war effort by demanding an overly-strict interpretation of the Constitution during this temporary, transitional phase.

Pundits estimated that the many billions of dollars saved by postponing the election could be better used to provide the very latest and best weapons to our troops, who put their lives on the line for our freedoms every day.

President Bush assuring the public relations and broadcast media industries that the domestic profits lost will be recouped tenfold as part of the re-education efforts on behalf of occupied populations worldwide, helping them to cherish the same values and principles that have made America a beacon of liberty to the world.
