Sharon reveals details of Israeli roadmap to peace

Israel's Prime Minister Ariel Sharon unveiled details today of his roadmap to peace between his country and the millions of Palestinians under Israeli control.

The first step in the roadmap calls for newly-elected Palestinian Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas to disarm the Palestinian militias and to eliminate all armed resistance to Israeli rule.

Palestinians must then offer formal recognition of the right of return of Jews to Judea and Samaria, and make no effort to impede the expansion of existing settlements or the construction of new ones.

Specifically, the Palestinian Authority must dismantle the Hamas terrorist organization and surrender its top leadership to stand trial in Israel's courts.

Palestinians must further agree to make financial reparations for all terrorist activity within Israel, including losses due to the economic downturn caused by the current intifada.

When these conditions are met, Israel will then agree to withdraw IDF forces from Palestinian neighborhoods and to expedite "unlimited" Palestinian emigration to neighboring Arab countries.
