Polls show strong support for President despite lies

Support for President Bush remains strong despite the growing list of official lies and the deepening quagmire in Iraq, according to poll results released today by Fox News.

72% of those polled said they supported the invasion of Iraq, even if no weapons of mass destruction or links to Al Qaida were found, Saddam Hussein remains at large, and US forces remain there for many years.

68% felt that the loss of one or two American lives a day and the cost of 4 billion dollars a month during a time of record US deficits were "worth it" if it meant that Americans could feel comforted by official statements from the Bush administration.

64% of Americans agreed with the President that no further investigation of the 9/11 tragedy should take place, believing that the nation's trust in its government was more important that discovering the truth.

In related questions, 72% complained that there was already "too much reality" on television, and would not watch programs that revealed too many complex details concerning the deceptions practiced by government officials.

"Most Americans admit they can't handle the truth," White House officials said yesterday, commenting on the poll results. "And they resent those in the media that constantly attempt to make them face it."
